What does a vet do?

A vet is a doctor who makes sick and hurt animals better.

A vet is a doctor for animals. Vets check dogs, cats, birds, horses, and even farm animals. When a sick animal comes in, the vet listens to it, looks at its eyes and mouth, and sometimes does a blood test.

A vet does not only treat sick animals. Vets also give shots to keep animals safe from getting sick. They also tell pet owners how to take care of their pets.

Some vets work in small clinics and look after pets like cats and dogs. Others go to farms to check big animals like cows and sheep. Some vets work in zoos, looking after wild animals like lions and giraffes.
